Impressive art works adorn the walls of Dunottar and all forms of visual arts are an important and popular part of school life. Â From Year 7, pupils are encouraged to record observations in sketchbooks to help stimulate imaginative ideas and they are exposed to a variety of materials, techniques and tools. Â Pupils are introduced to work from different genres by a variety of artists as well as considering the cultural influences from around the globe and the impact these may have on current practices in the creative fields. As their ability develops, we introduce more stretching and abstract concepts such as movement, expression and mood, building firm foundations for the creative challenges of GCSE and A Level Art.
We are able to offer different courses in order to support and develop our pupils’ expertise across the full range of titles at GCSE and A-level such as Art, Craft & Design, Fine Art, Three-Dimensional Design, Textiles and Photography.
Each year we hold a Private View, celebrating the artistic work of the year, so that the pupils can share their work to family and friends. Â Modern, airy art studios give pupils the space they need to develop ambitious, creative work and the comprehensive resources, which include a kiln, allow pupils to develop their skills with a wide range of media.
Art & Design Scholarships are offered to those who show exceptional potential at Year 7 and Year 12 entry.
