The best way to find out if Dunottar School is the right fit for your child is to join us at one of our Working Open Mornings where you will have the chance to talk to pupils and teachers about what life at Dunottar is really like.
Families are warmly invited to attend any of our Working Open Mornings which run throughout the year. During your visit you will meet our Headmaster, Mark Tottman, be guided around our beautiful grounds and facilities by our Year 8 pupils and see the school in action. We encourage you to bring your child with you to the Open Morning when they are in Year 4 or 5.
When you are ready to take the next step, register your child with us by:
You may register your child at any time prior to the registration deadline but encourage you to register by the Spring Term of Year 5 so that your child can attend our Taster Morning.
Once your child is registered with us they will be invited to attend our Taster Morning in the Summer Term of Year 5. This event allows pupils to get a better feel for life at Dunottar, to meet some of our teachers, and get to know other children who will be sitting the entrance assessments. During the morning, pupils take part in two activities, one set and one of their choice. There are lots of fun sessions to choose from including sports, cookery, Lego Robotics, art and more!
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and all your wonderful staff for a lovely Dunottar taster morning. My daughter had so much fun and absolutely loved every second. She thoroughly enjoyed the Photographic activity as well as others and enjoyed meeting and mixing with new children. She didn’t stop talking about how much she enjoyed it.
Our Year 7 assessments are designed for pupils to learn more about life at Dunottar and to enable us to begin to get to know your child and to help us assess their ability to fit into the Dunottar community.
Pupils will take part in our Warrior Learner Assessments, which involve a number of individual and group activities, allowing us to assess their creativity and how they work with other children. No preparation for these activities is required. All pupils will also have a friendly, informal interview with a member of staff.
In addition, pupils will sit academic assessments in English, Mathematics and an online test covering: Verbal, Non-Verbal and numerical exercises. In English and Mathematics the tests are based on the National Curriculum work that the pupils will have been doing in their current school. No special tutoring is required beyond this.
As part of the admissions process, we will contact your child’s current school to request a confidential reference.
My daughter has not stopped telling us about the fun activities she took part in, the kind children she met, and just what an exciting visit she had to Dunottar (of course the cookie got a mention too!).
It is a fantastic reflection of the school’s clear ethos and approach, that the children felt at ease, and came away beaming about the time they’d had, and the interesting conversations and activities.
