Matt Thomas, 20, who works at Dunottar School, won the Network Systems Administrator competition at the two-day final at the Birmingham NEC last week. 58 other finals took place at the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world.
Run by WorldSkills, competitors under the age of 23 were challenged to demonstrate technical abilities through specific tasks for which they are studying or performing at work.
Matt, who is hoping to become an IT consultant, felt ‘happy and relieved’ when he heard that he is the top young network systems administrator in the country.
Sundus Ameen, IT Systems Manager at Dunottar School, said: “One of the benefits of working at Dunottar is that Matt has the opportunity to develop his skills and expertise within the wider United Learning group. He is to be congratulated upon his hard work, and I am sure that he will fulfil his dream of a career in IT consultancy.”
