Warrior Learning

At Dunottar we enable our pupils to achieve spectacular outcomes by encouraging them to exhibit the seven behaviours of 'warrior learners'; aspiration, creativity, tenacity, independence, curiosity, collaboration and inclusivity, preparing them for the fast paced and ever changing world we live in.

During the Easter break, students took part in their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award practice expedition. The group spent four days and three nights developing their skills, teamwork and confidence.

The expedition began with a day of travel and training around the first campsite, giving students time to practise key skills and prepare for the journey ahead. Over the next three days, they travelled along the River Wye, camping in Hereford and Hoarwithy before finishing in Ross‑on‑Wye.

One of the students’ favourite moments was the campfire on the third night, where they were able to relax together after a long day, reflect on their progress and enjoy the shared experience.

In total, the group covered around 64 kilometres, excluding the training day. The expedition was a great challenge, and students will use what they learned to make meaningful improvements to their planning and teamwork ahead of their qualifying expedition in July.

Well done!
